Supervisor Kathy Smith gets results for Sully, and her work is far from complete. Kathy Smith will continue fighting for housing that is affordable, fully funding our schools, improving traffic and roads, and prioritizing pedestrian and bicycle safety. Kathy voted for pay raises for police officers to ensure Fairfax County stays the safest jurisdiction of its size. Economic Development:
Kathy knows that a healthy economy is important to Fairfax County. She has implemented programs to support small businesses by collaborating with local organizations to offer training programs, mentorship opportunities, and networking events to empower small business owners and promote their success and worked closely with the business community to streamline regulations and reduce bureaucratic hurdles, making it easier for entrepreneurs to start and operate their ventures in Fairfax County
Education:
Kathy understands that a high quality education is crucial to Farifax County, so she voted to fully funded Fairfax County schools and ensured teachers and students received the resources they need to succeed.
Environment:
Kathy worked to protect our environment by partnering organizations to expand alternatives for clean energy, improve the health of streams and waterways, and protect and preserve the County’s tree canopy.
Public Safety:
Fairfax County is the safest juristiction of it’s size, and Kathy approved pay increases for police officers and added a hiring bonus for recruitment.
Housing that is Affordable:
Kathy increased the availability of affordable housing options, ensuring that individuals and families have access to affordable homes. There is a goal of achieving 10,000 net new affordable housing units by 2034. Over the past two years the total commitment for affordable housing totals over $118 million.
Transportation:
Kathy fought to widen Route 28 from four to six lanes, which will open later this year. Increased bus service in Western Fairfax County. Dedicated significant funds for pedestrian and bicycle improvements.
Community Resources:
Kathy addressed the need for the Sully Community Center, which opened in September of 2022, has 2 gyms, courts, and a senior center, a health care center, SACC, and activities for all ages.
