After graduating from Muhlenberg College with a BA in Sociology and Elementary Education, Kathy taught first grade in New Jersey and second grade at an International School in Saudi Arabia. She and her husband, Steve, have lived in Sully since 1984, raising their four children, Brian, Kyle, Stephanie and Andrew. As her children attended Fairfax County public schools, Kathy served as PTA president at Poplar Tree ES, Rocky Run MS and Chantilly HS. In 2002 she was elected to the Fairfax County School Board, where she served until being elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2015.
Sully District elected Kathy Smith as their supervisor because they wanted a leader who would:
- Serve as a Full-time supervisor
- Understand that good schools attract businesses and families to the county
- Be fiscally responsible with Fairfax County’s 4.5 billion dollar budget and balance the budget
- Protect our environment
Supervisor Kathy Smith has served Fairfax County well, and deserves 4 more years. She has accomplished so much including: dedicating her time to being a full-time supervisor, fully funding our schools, being fiscally responsible, and protecting our environment while expanding transportation networks.
